WHAT PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW
What is COVID-19?
COVID -19 is caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus, the virus which can cause mild to severe respiratory illness. People with the following symptoms may have COVID-19:
* Fever or chills
* Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
* Muscle or body aches
* New loss of taste or smell
* Sore throat
* Congestion or runny nose
* Nausea or vomiting
(This list does not include all possible symptoms)
Symptoms may appear from 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
What is BD Veritor - System for Rapid Detection?
The rapid COVID test is a type of test called an antigen test. Antigen tests are designed to detect proteins from the virus that cause COVID-19 in respiratory specimens, for example nasal swabs. Rapid testing should be performed within the first five days of the onset of symptoms.
What does it mean if I test positive?
If you have a positive test results for COVID-19, it is very likely that you will need to be placed in isolation to avoid spreading the virus to others. Your healthcare provider will work with you to determine how best to care for you based on your rest results, your symptoms and medical history.
HOW COVID-19 AFFECTS OUR ACUTE SICK VISITS
If you call our office with an acute illness that involves symptoms that people with COVID-19 also show, we must rule out COVID-19 by having you come to our new COVID carport for a Rapid COVID Test.
We do not treat or evaluate COVID patients inside our office. We do offer the Rapid COVID test that is performed by swabbing the front of the nose (not the nasopharyngeal "brain biopsy" swab). The results take 15 minutes. Appointments are required for this test. Same-day appointments are available. Our new COVID carport is located at the back of our building. You will complete a COVID screening questionnaire, be swabbed and our provider will give you your results, all while you stay in the comfort of your car.
If your COVID-19 results are negative, please call our office to make an appointment inside to further evaluate your illness. This process adds a day to every COVID-like illness, but it is the only way to protect our patients and staff from infection inside the office.
Please be patient as we strive to meet the challenge of caring for your health during a pandemic.

Our response to COVID-19
In an effort to keep you safe, we are moving people out of the waiting room as quickly as possible and cleaning our exam rooms between patients. Please call us from your car if you don't want to wait in our waiting room, and we will call you when we are ready for you.
We respectfully ask that you wear a face covering while in our building, and our reference lab, Quest Diagnostics, requires a face covering for all patients having labs drawn.
If you suspect that you have been infected with the novel coronavirus, please call our office to make an appointment for testing, and for more information.
Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, we are now offering telehealth services. Telehealth visits are interactive audio and video communication using our patient portal. Please sign up for our patient portal, if you haven’t already done so, by calling our office. We can help you access this new way to have a visit with your provider without setting foot in our office.
